‘Core’ training is a term that has been used and abused a lot in the last decade or so. As strength and conditioning professionals, what we need to do is distinguish the actual training from the exercises or movements that don’t actually make our clients or athletes any better whatsoever. This workshop is aimed at doing just that, with a progressive model of development presented that aims to get your athletes moving well and getting better!
IN THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL LEARN:
- What is the ‘Core’ and what we are dealing with in developing ‘core’ physical qualities
- How to assess strengths and weaknesses in the core and where to progress from these points
- Progressions and regressions in core training
- What are we trying to develop? Core Strength? Stability? You’ll learn what the goals really are!
- High end core training, it’s not about lying on the floor!
- Programming core training and how to fit it into your training week.
- How to coach effectively, learn when to talk and the importance of the ‘just do it’ principle!
- What the research says about core training? Why you need to apply evidence based practice in everything you do.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
If you are looking to develop as an S&C coach or have a keen interest in the area then I would highly recommend you attend.
This 3 day programme is designed to give you ALL the tools required to start training athletes on Monday morning!
What I wanted to do was bring together some of the top professionals in their respective areas so it is more than just one or two peoples knowledge and experience. Thats what i’ve managed to do by securing Tamas Feher (GB Weightlifting Head Coach) to take you through the practical aspects of the olympic lifts, and Jared Deacon (English Institute of Sport Lead S&C coach for the Midlands and former Commonwealth 400m Gold Medallist) to cover the speed and plyometrics side of the programme. The three of us are working in elite sport every day and can bring you that in the trenches experience that sets good coaches apart from the competition.
I’ll be covering the areas of my expertise including gym based strength, power and hypertrophy training, movement training and screening. Then the programme will be rounded off with the theoretical underpinning for all these elements in relation to an applied strength and conditioning setting. If you want to know about how to get results with your athletes, whether it be in a pressurised professional sport environment or a long tern athlete development role it will all be covered, and you will be able to apply it to your environment.
Through the intern programmes that have been running through my current role and previous roles with British Tennis, EIS, Durham University, Huddersfield Giants etc I have been fortunate enough to have some great interns working with me, over a dozen of whom haven taken and passed their UKSCA accreditation and are working in field as S&C coaches, lecturers, trainers and therapists in elite sport or higher education, and all are operating at a high level in their respective positions.
I’m not saying this to make myself look good, on the contrary, it has shown me is what is lacking in formalised education as well as what new and aspiring S&C coaches need to do the job. This is what I have put into this programme.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT THEORY, ITS ABOUT GETTING RESULTS!
The 3 days will be pretty demanding, its not going to be a 9-5 course! There is a lot of info to fit into the 3 days and it will likely run into the evening, so be prepared! The goal of the programme is for you to leave with the tools to start coaching ON MONDAY MORNING! To do that requires hard work from you….and myself and the other presenters!
HERES THE THOUGHTS OF 3 ATTENDEES AT THE A PREVIOUS COURSE:
Here’s the agenda for the 3 days:
DAY 1: GATHERING INFORMATION is the theme of day 1.
SCREENING AND ASSESSMENT THOERY AND PRACTICAL: This module will cover movement screening to identify potential injury risks and areas of imbalance which is essential learning in the initial stages of beginning your training programmes with your athletes, and performance testing, which is also a key ingredient in any performance programme.
CORRECTIVE EXERCISE PROGRESSIONS: Continuing on the theme of the screening module this practical session will show you how to implement corrective exercise protocols and most importantly the exact progressions and regressions used to reduce injuries in elite athletes will be shown and coached to you in detail.
GYM BASED STRENGTH, POWER AND HYPERTROPHY TRAINING: This practical session will go through many of the progressions that are used in strength and conditioning programmes with a specific focus on getting the basics right and the finer details of the fundamental movements. This is essential to give you that IN DEPTH understanding on the key lifts and their use in achieving programme goals as well as solutions to the common issues people face with these movements.
DAY 2: BUILDING PHYSICAL QUALITIES is the theme of day 2.
SPEED TRAINING AND PLYOMETRICS: This module will be lead by commonwealth 400m gold medallist Jared Deacon. Jared is the lead S&C coach for the English Institute of Sport Midlands Region and works with elite athletes on a daily basis. He will be going through the fundamentals of speed development including key drills to improve your speed and running technique. In the plyometrics section Jared will outline his model for plyometric training and will coach you through all the key exercises.
OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING PRACTICAL: This module will be lead by Tamas Feher, GB Lead Performance Coach for Weightlifting. Tamas has over 30 years experience teaching the lifts and works with the GB Weightlifting full time programme in Leeds. His coaching is no nonsense, results based and this practical session will give you an excellent understanding of the lifts and how to coach them to your athletes.
CORE TRAINING THEORY AND PRACTICAL: In this section of the programme you will go through many of the progressions that are used in our athletes programmes on a daily basis as well as new and innovative methods to train the core. You’ll also learn the why’s of what your doing, meaning that you can create and develop exercises and pressions yourself in the future.
DAY 3: BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER is the theme for day 3
PROGRAMME DESIGN AND PERIODISATION: This is a key section which shows you how to plan your athletes/clients programmes on a short. medium, and long term basis. Session design for gym based strength and power type sessions, movement and speed sessions, endurance and conditioning sessions will be included in this as well as tying this all together in your overall performance programme.
You will be able to programme for your athletes from Monday morning using this simple model of programme development.
MOVEMENT AND AGILITY TRAINING: This module takes the information from the speed practical and applies it to multi-directional sports and athletes. You will see how movement training is a key area for any strength and conditioning coach to emphasise and really helps to transfer the work done in the gym to the sporting arena. You will come away with a great understanding of how to put together your movement training programme, how to coach movement and agility drills and the key points for all the exercises, as well as progressions to keep your athletes challenged and improving over time.
ENERGY SYSTEM TRAINING AND CONDITIONING: We all need our athletes to be fit and conditioned for the sport and activities they perform. To do this, a good understanding of energy system development and conditioning is required. This section of the programme covers energy system training theory in depth and gives you the tools to design your energy system development programmes for all sports.
FUNDAMENTALS OF QUALITY COACHING: Although this theme is running throughout the entire 3 days, the conclusion to the three days brings together all elements and looks at the fundamentals of coaching, which really is the way to get results in your athletes and clients. You will leave with the confidence to start training and coaching your athletes to a much higher level, with all the tools in the box to do so, and a fresh approach to performance training too.
REGISTER BEFORE 1ST DECEMBER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EARLY PAYMENT DISCOUNT OF £100
WHO IS THE PROGRAMME AIMED AT?
The programme is aimed at individuals looking to get into strength and conditioning at all levels. It covers all the bases required to work as a strength and conditioning coach or trainer. Some positions will contain more of a certain element than another (eg weight room based coaching versus field based coaching). The key for a successful coach is to have an excellent understanding of all these areas so you can apply/adapt them in your given role in the future. This 3 day programme is designed to give you that fundamental knowledge and practical ability.
It is also suited to those individuals who take their training extremely seriously and want to learn more about key aspects of their own training programme.
Lastly, it is suitable for professionals from other disciplines such as physiotherapy, osteopathy, sports therapy etc who are looking to add another dimension to their practice or simply want to improve their knowledge base.
WHO IS IT NOT SUITABLE FOR?
Its not suitable for those people who feel they have nothing more to learn! Definitely don’t book unless you have an open mind and are willing to learn a LOT over the 3 days.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE PROGRAMME?
Firstly pay to secure your place. The programme has limited availability and the previous courses have SOLD OUT months before the course date. Group sizes are limited to 12:1 to keep the quality extremely high.
Secondly, we’d like to know more about you. So you need to send us a short introduction about yourself and your goals career wise. This programme is for people who really want to make that step to becoming S&C coaches and trainers or who have a passion for training and want to learn about the training process to further their own training. We really need to know that you are one of these people!
When you register you’ll get an email address to reply to with the info.

DON’T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT….HERE’S THE THOUGHTS OF COACHES AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS:
“Brendan Chaplin is one of the most talented Strength and Conditioning practitioners in the UK today. An exceptional knowledge of the latest training theories and practices linked to an ability to innovate and engage athletes of all ages and abilities is what sets him apart. To be operating at such a high level with vast and varied experience at a relatively young age makes Brendan a special talent in the industry. I would recommend any athletes go to work with Brendan, he is a man of skill, ability and the highest professional integrity.”
Ben Haining BSc ASCC Head of Strength and Conditioning Reeds School, Surrey CCC consultant S and C Coach Former South East of England S and C with the LTA Former Head of S and C @Sussex CCC
“Brendan Chaplin demonstrates all the key qualities needed to be a world class Strength & Conditioning Coach – he combines theoretical and scientific knowledge with fundamental coaching skills and has a well balanced approach to using traditional training paradigms with the latest innovations in athlete development. Most importantly he was able to use these skills to positively impact the development and performance of the athletes he supported in British Tennis”.
Dr Karl Cooke, LTA Performance & Player Support Manager
“Brendan was my strength and conditioning coach during my time rowing at Durham University and then my mentor at the start of my S&C career. As an athlete I found his programmes to be progressive and targeted. He was always available and able to adapt the programme for my specific requirements.
As his assistant coach I found Brendan to be very knowledgeable and keen to help with my development. He showed me the foundations of solid programming and ensured that I developed the fundamental skills required in a good S&C coach. His work with the Team Durham High Performance teams was of the highest quality and all the teams displayed increased athletic ability and reduced incidence of injury.
His enthusiasm for continued learning and personal development was inspiring and is possibly the most important thing he taught me.
I hope to work with Brendan again in the future.”
Russell Jolley, BSc ASCC, Strength and Conditioning Coach Bournemouth University www.conditioningcentre.com
“Brendan Chaplin is a Strength & Conditioning coach of high calibre. I have always been impressed by his desire for further knoweldge. Brendan is always keen to learn from other coaches. Equally he has the ability to critically evaluate both his own coaching and the work of others. This evidence based approach enables Brendan to consistently achieve excellent results with his athletes.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Brendan to any athlete looking to take their performance to the next level.”
Tim Egerton MSc ASCC CSCS www.Sprintstrong.com
After a number of years of studying the Strength and Conditioning field and taking various qualifications, including a mentorship in America, I was prompted to apply for the Internship Programme at Leeds Carnegie University. I hoped the opportunity offered by the Internship would allow me to improve my skills, knowledge and experience as a coach, which I am constantly striving to develop. I was put in contact with Brendan Chaplin, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, at Leeds Carnegie. I was accepted as an intern which I was extremely happy about due to the excellent sporting reputation at the university. The opportunity enabled me to gain a vast amount of experience with athletes from various sports disciplines. The experience I have gained at Leeds has been an invaluable and has greatly enhanced my coaching skills and expertise, allowing me to get the most out of the athletes I have worked with.
A main aim of mine was to become UKSCA-ASCC accredited, which I achieve first time, in May 2011. The experience and opportunities I got through the Internship and the excellent mentorship from Brendan greatly helped me achieve this goal and further build my credibility as a coach.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would encourage anyone who is serious about developing their coaching skills to contact Brendan and apply for the programme.
I would like to thank Brendan for this excellent opportunity and guidance he has given throughout this year. Brendan is a young, greatly experienced and very informed coach who is always willing to share his insight and knowledge of the Strength and Conditioning field.
Danny Hague ASCC, MMA-CSCC
TASS Strength and Conditioning Coach
Since I realised i wanted to become an S&C coach I knew that i needed to get experience, so when i was selected for an internship with Brendan I jumped at the chance. Since this point my experience and knowledge has developed unimaginably. There is no doubt in my mind that were it not for my internship I would only be half the coach I am now. I now feel I have a strong chance of being successful in the industry and were it not for my internship I highly doubt this would be possible. Brendan is an excellent mentor and if you put the hard work in he will certainly give it back.

The LBC emphasises smart training and quality nutritional habits as well as community spirit to get nothing short of outstanding results in record time. It also has a goal of teaching people how to design their diets and programmes moving forwards and learn about the principles of training giving them a metaphorical ‘toolbox’ of techniques they can use in their own training.
Now for the first time Brendan is bringing the theory and practical application of the challenge into a 1 day course which aims to teach the participants ALL the aspects of the LBC both from a nutritional side as well as the exercise side.
Participants will be certified as a Lean Body Trainer Level 1, meaning they have the level of knowledge required to design and run their own Lean Body Programme.
In this course you will learn:
How to design programmes with a goal to reduce body fat whilst maintaining and developing muscle mass
Nutritional strategies specifically designed to optimise fat loss whilst still addressing performance goals in your clients and athletes
The hierarchy of fat loss training and exercise techniques. The best sessions to use and why. Both the theory and practical side. You will be able to design and more importantly COACH your clients with this knowledge.
How to organise your clients and athletes into tiers, giving you the opportunity to programme more accurately for different levels of fitness and aptitude.
High performance exercise strategies which are transferable to everyday clients, athletes, and weekend warriors alike.
Volume and intensity considerations that MUST be allowed for in order to prevent burnout, injury and to optimise fat loss gains.
Just what is possible in 3-4 weeks of training and why
Key supplements to use for fat loss and performance goals.
On completion of the course you will be a certified Lean Body Trainer Level 1 and be eligible to run you’re own Lean Body Challenge and for a monthly fee you will be able to access ALL the Lean Body materials and resources including the email campaign, facebook group, support network and paid resources such as the Lean Body Cookbook, supplement stacks and Lean Body Method Ebook.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
It’s taken some time to get this sorted but i’m really excited about finally getting it arranged.
HERES THE THOUGHTS OF 2 ATTENDEES AT THE JUNE COURSE:

TAKE YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND COACHING QUALITY TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
